Team & leadership development
What is Team Development?

Team development is a series of activities, interventions and conversations that enable a group of individuals with different skills, ideas, experience and personalities to be motivated to work effectively together towards a common goal in a disciplined and creative way.
Leadership and Board Development
Working with leaders of an organisation to look at how to leverage the collective and individual strengths of the board so that it produces organisational excellence and success. Working with individual members of the board or the board as a team, interventions might include executive coaching, team coaching or development, or our creative leadership process, APOD Music.
What are the benefits of Team Development?
Whether the context is a newly established team, a merger of existing teams, where the team is seen to not be maximising its potential (being greater than the sum of its parts) or where there is inter or intra-team conflict, an effective team development programme:
- Develops team cohesiveness, solidarity and identity
- Builds on the experience, skills and attributes already present in the team
- Develops a shared understanding of the vision and process for getting there
- Increases team members’ understanding and appreciation of difference and diversity in the team
- Promotes an innovative and challenging climate in which team members are motivated to maximise their potential
- Sharpens communication and interpersonal skills
- Manages the group dynamics which can undermine team effectiveness and uses them to move the team to higher levels of performance
"It was a remarkable transformation. We came in a group of people who didn't know each other and we left a tribe."
- Kirstin Irving, Chartered Psychologist (describing an APOD Music day).
What does a Team Development involve?
Team Development is tailored to the needs of the client. To give a flavour, it is likely to include some or all of the following:
- Meetings with individual team members
- Psychometric profiling
- Developing a shared understanding (often through a report outlining initial observations and findings) of current state
- Team coaching (utilising existing team meetings and operations)
- Individual coaching
- Vision & values meeting (possibly off-site) where the team works to establish a common vision, values, goals and accountability
